Comparatists in Conversation

A space for research and dialogue across languages, texts, disciplines and traditions.

“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.”

Beyond East/West or Does Shakespeare still Matter
Beyond East/West or Does Shakespeare still Matter
Fri, 05 Dec
Virtual Event
The speaker will consider what it means to think with and about Shakespeare given calls to decolonise the curriculum and move beyond the Western canon. She asks whether the categories of East/West or indeed Global South/Global North are useful or do they sometimes elide structural inequities.
